Is a Blog Important For Your Business or Not?
I often asked myself this question because my clients either wants a website without a blog or a website with a blog. (A blog is essentially a website in its’ own right.) Blogging has taken the world by the storm. In my opinion, this can be good or bad.
Having a blog can help brand your business.
A good example of using a blog to brand your business is The Safeway Blog (by the way, what a terrific name for a blog) which is a grocery chain found pretty much all over the western part of the U.S.
Word of caution
It is easy enough to stray away from the true nature of why you started blogging on your business website in the first place. Then again, even if you stay focused, if you can’t do a good job of blogging, it may end up hurting your business.
In Speedwell’s Forge B&B Journal, they do a decent job of staying focused but I am not too thrilled about the way they intergrated the blog into the overall design of their site. In my opinion, this is hurting their business more than not.
If you are interested in having a blog on your website, or already have one but feel like it is going nowhere, I encourage you to read Lifehack’s post about branding your blog. It has given me some inspiration and certainly is helping me refocus on my rebranding here.
What do you think? Do you think a blog might help your business or not? If not, why?
